Banks Go Live on Swift Ledger

HSBC and Standard Chartered executed the first live cross-border transaction on Swift's blockchain-based ledger (August 19), exchanging payment messages whose obligations were recorded as tokenised deposits on each bank's own platform — HSBC's Tokenised Deposit Service and Standard Chartered's equivalent. Swift's ledger acted as the orchestration layer, matching and netting the obligations, with final settlement through existing systems. Seventeen banks across six continents are piloting the ledger, declared ready for use in July.

Grayscale Moves to Turn Its Zcash Trust Into an ETF — With Its Own Parent Group in Talks to Seed It

Grayscale filed a fourth amended registration statement on August 18 to convert its Zcash Trust into an exchange-traded fund listed on NYSE Arca under the ticker ZCSH, which would be the first US spot ETF tracking a privacy coin if the SEC declares it effective. The filing discloses non-binding discussions for DCG International Investments — a subsidiary of Grayscale's parent — to acquire shares in exchange for roughly 200,000 ZEC, about $110 million at recent prices. ZEC rose about 9%.
