Growing quantum computing capability is forcing Bitcoin and crypto industry players to urgently develop and fund post-quantum cryptographic defenses.
BlackRock, Coinbase, Strategy, and six other institutions established the Bitcoin Security Alliance, pledging $15 million over three years to fund quantum-resistant Bitcoin development. Coinbase separately disclosed it is building post-quantum custody infrastructure with plans for an automated Bitcoin security upgrade. BlackRock published analysis stating crypto networks retain an advantage in addressing quantum threats if upgrades proceed promptly.
