Zcash Holders Vote in Private

Zcash's NU7 coinholder vote — which includes a proposed change to how ZEC is issued — has its mainnet snapshot on August 24, with voting weight derived from shielded holdings and only vote totals published, per coverage. ZEC surged roughly 62% in a week to an approximately eight-year high near $880, with futures open interest reported nearly doubling. Grayscale's converted Zcash fund is expected to begin NYSE Arca trading around August 25, pending final SEC effectiveness.

Zcash vote: the coin decides who holds it

The rally gets the headlines. The vote is the real story.

Right now Zcash holders are voting on the NU7 upgrade using a mechanism that fits everything the coin stands for: your voting weight comes from shielded ZEC held in the private Ironwood pool. Ballots are cast through wallets, only the totals ever get published, and no individual vote is ever revealed.

A private vote to steer a private coin. To take part, you have to actually hold the thing in shielded form, not through Grayscale's fund, not on an exchange.

The front door Wall Street just built gives you the price. It doesn't give you a say. Only the people holding real, shielded ZEC get to decide what Zcash becomes.
