Hyperliquid's US Door Is Kraken's Licence

Verified · 1 Sept 2026Perp DEXSep 1, 2026

Hyperliquid in advanced talks with Kraken parent Payward to bring regulated perps to the US via Bitnomial's CFTC stack (exchange/clearing/broker, bought for up to $550M in April); CFTC filing in process; HYPE up on the report — talks, not a deal

Bitnomial: the wrapper is the whole deal

The prize here isn't Hyperliquid getting a green light.

It's the shell it's climbing into.

Kraken's parent paid up to $550 million for Bitnomial in April. That bought the full set of US derivatives licences: exchange, clearinghouse, broker.

US traders wouldn't touch Hyperliquid directly.

They'd get a hand-picked menu of crypto perps, offered through Bitnomial, presumably priced off Hyperliquid's markets.

Hyperliquid was: connect a wallet, no gatekeeper, trade anything.

This version, as described, keeps the price feed and swaps the freedom for a licensed middleman.

That's the second incumbent door in a month. Coinbase routes its retail app to Hyperliquid. Kraken would wrap it in a licence.

The leader isn't being invaded by the incumbents. It's entering America through their paperwork.

Good for the token, maybe.

But the thing coming to America is a regulated echo, not the real machine.
