MSCI Comes Back for Strategy — Round Two

MSCI Returns for Strategy With a Rewritten Rule — and This Time It Isn't Only About Crypto

Verified · 18 Aug 2026BitcoinAug 18, 2026

MSCI opened a new consultation on whether "non-operating companies" belong in its Global Investable Market Indexes — seven months after shelving its crypto-specific exclusion proposal under pressure from Strategy. A simulation on May data would delete Strategy, Metaplanet and uranium-holder Yellow Cake from the MSCI ACWI IMI, with SharpLink among those watchlisted; analysts put passive MSTR selling at roughly $2.8 billion, and prediction markets price deletion near 73%. Strategy has formally objected again. Feedback closes September 30; results are expected around October 16.
