Blake2b Fork Activates Tomorrow
Luke Dashjr resigned as chairman and CTO of the OCEAN mining pool, which repurchased his equity after August's BIP-110 fight left the pool's hashrate down 96%, per coverage. He backs a hard fork of the stalled BIP-110 minority chain to the Blake2b mining algorithm, with activation targeted for Tuesday, September 1 (a rehearsal chain has run since August 30), and announced a new pool, Convoy, which had published no operating details at reporting time. Coverage flagged transaction replay risk between the chains as unresolved.
Convoy Pool: the fork nobody has to join
Tomorrow, the breakaway Bitcoin chain that stalled in August tries again.
This time it's switching its mining puzzle to Blake2b, a method existing Bitcoin machines cannot run.
Luke Dashjr, one of Bitcoin's oldest developers, has left the mining pool he chaired to back it.
He has announced a new pool, Convoy. It has no published miners, code or fees yet.
The original Bitcoin keeps its machines, its price and its name.
The new chain asks miners to buy different hardware for a principle.
In August, fewer than 3% signalled support. The chain froze after a few blocks.
Tuesday asks the same question with a new puzzle.
If you hold bitcoin, you will hold coins on both chains automatically.
Until replay protection is confirmed, moving coins on one chain can repeat the move on the other.
