Circle's Arc Mainnet Goes Live

Verified · 17 Sept 2026Institutional TransitionSep 17, 2026

Circle launched its Arc blockchain mainnet with BlackRock and Visa among eleven permissioned validators, minting 10 billion ARC tokens and making USDC the network's gas token, per The Block and The Information. Contract deployment is permissionless while validation remains restricted to the named institutions. Day-one support included Binance USDC deposits, Robinhood integration and Circle's x402 payments service, per coverage. The DTCC's leg — tokenising DTC-custodied assets on Arc — is slated for H2 2027.

Arc Launches: Open to Build, Closed to Settle

Circle's blockchain went live this week. Read what it actually is.

Anyone can build on Arc. Nobody can help run it.

Contract deployment is permissionless — launch your app, no questions. Validation is another matter: eleven firms, hand-picked by Circle, confirm every transaction. BlackRock. Visa. Mastercard. ICE, which owns the New York Stock Exchange. The DTCC, which settles nearly every American stock trade.

Several of those validators were also investors in Arc's token sale. The referees bought shares in the game.

And the fuel: every transaction on Arc pays its fees in USDC — Circle's own dollar. The issuer built a road where its money is the toll.

The pitch for putting finance on a blockchain was that no single gatekeeper decides what's valid.

Arc's answer: gatekeepers, plural, and here are their logos.

Remember Liquid, two weeks ago. Fifteen operators, one shared rulebook, and a bug in the rulebook got eleven signatures. Diversity of machines, monoculture of rules.

Arc has the same shape with a sharper edge. Twelve validators, diverse by logo — and nearly all answerable to the same US supervisors and the same court orders. One legal instruction reaches five seats at once.

On Liquid, one rulebook failed eleven machines. On Arc, one jurisdiction is the rulebook.

This isn't finance being disrupted. It's finance rebuilding its settlement machinery on faster rails — open where openness costs nothing, closed where control matters.

What exactly did you escape?
