Zcash Hits Decade High as NU7 Passes

Verified · 18 Sept 2026PrivacySep 18, 2026

Zcash briefly broke $1,500, a ten-year high, as the NU7 network upgrade was confirmed approved — coinholders voting overwhelmingly to retain the Bitcoin-style halving schedule while cutting block times to 25 seconds, per Decrypt. Investment firm Paradigm disclosed a ZEC holding and separately cautioned that coinvoting "could limit Zcash's long-term trust as a monetary asset," per coverage. The rally came as wider markets fell on the Federal Reserve's first rate hike since 2023.

Paradigm's warning: the buyer flagged the risk

Zcash holders just voted on the network's future. They chose no change.

Keep the Bitcoin-style halvings. Keep the scarcity rules. Speed the blocks up to 25 seconds, and touch nothing else that matters.

The price celebrated: briefly above $1,500, a ten-year high — on a day the rest of the market fell.

Then Paradigm, a major crypto investor, did something strange.

It disclosed it holds Zcash. And in the same breath warned that the voting system itself — one coin, one vote — "could limit Zcash's long-term trust as a monetary asset."

The buyer flagged the risk in the product it was buying.

Here's the problem Paradigm is pointing at. Sound money is supposed to have rules nobody can bend.

This vote bent nothing. But the machinery that decided it runs on weight of coins — and coins concentrate. The whales chose restraint this time. The system that let them choose is still there next time.

A conservative result from a mechanism that doesn't guarantee one.

The vote strengthened Zcash's money story. The voting system is the asterisk on it — says its newest famous holder.
