MiFID II reclassification could ban DeFi in Europe by forcing compliance with TradFi rules

European regulators are reviewing whether crypto assets that function economically like derivatives, securities, or funds should be excluded from MiCA and regulated under MiFID II instead, which would require DeFi platforms to meet traditional finance obligations that are structurally incompatible with decentralised protocols.
