Visa Integrates Stablecoins Into Visa Direct Across 18 Billion Endpoints via Zero Hash Partnership
Visa began deploying stablecoin prefunding and payout capabilities across Visa Direct, its cross-border payout network, through a partnership with Zero Hash announced August 5. Eligible business clients can prefund accounts and send payouts in stablecoins, primarily USDC, with Zero Hash — MiCA-licensed and now applying for a US trust-bank charter — supplying the compliance and settlement layer. Visa Direct reaches more than 18 billion endpoints across 195 countries; the move operationalizes the Visa Stablecoin Platform launched July 16.
Visa Direct: settlement, not access
"18 billion endpoints" sounds like the whole world just got a stablecoin wallet. Read what actually changed. Businesses — not you — can now prefund and pay out in stablecoins through Visa Direct, Visa's cross-border payout network, with a firm called Zero Hash handling the regulatory plumbing. Visa is making its own settlement faster. It is not handing anyone a dollar nobody controls.
The recipient still gets funds through Visa Direct. The rail is the same. What's new is that the pipes behind it now run on stablecoins instead of slow bank wires — a genuine upgrade, 24/7 and quicker across borders. But a stablecoin was meant to move without asking permission, and here it moves precisely because Visa granted it, settling inside Visa's network, cleared by a company that is itself applying to become a US bank.
Step back and Visa's whole hand is on the table. It launched its own stablecoin platform in July; this week it wired that platform into its global payout network; and next month it becomes a validator on Circle's Arc, the members-only chain where the big institutions approve each other's transactions. Build the tools, run them across your rails, then help own the chain everyone else settles on. That's not three announcements. It's one company covering every layer between a stablecoin and a bank account — and quietly making sure it sits on each of them.
Which is the pattern under all of it. Mastercard bought a ramp. Western Union issued its own coin. Visa built the platform and joined the chain. The always-on dollar keeps arriving — faster, cheaper, real. It just keeps arriving inside somebody's network, cleared by somebody's bank. The rails win. The independence was never what was being sold here.
